I framed this red-spotted purple (I think the person who named a lot of these butterflies was colorblind), Limenitis arthemis astyanax, with four layers of card- blue, orange-yellow and two brown, trying to replicate and highlight the colors in the butterfly. I think I did a pretty good job. Here’s a side view
This cicada has found her forever home in an explosion of yellow and darker yellow. Collected dead and spread (that’s what we call pinning the insect so the wings will stick out. I love dog-day cicadas- I love the weird noise they make in the trees and I think they’re so beautiful. This amazing work…
I’m super proud of this piece. I tried pick colors and shapes that would really flatter the moth (Luna moth, Actias luna). I think it turned out really art deco.
